I had the pleasure fishing the Pelican billfish tournament again this year for the first time since 2010 when we broke all the records. We started out with a bang, releasing the first fish of the tournament, but after that our action fizzled only releasing one more for the day. Day two we had a little more action which put us in a good striking position on day three. Day three was slow overall, but after  jumping all over the ocean we finally landed in the spot that had some fish. We released five in about 15 minutes which launched us into a five way tie for second. After that fishing came to a halt and nobody else released any more fish, because of when we caught our last fish we ended up in fifth place on time even though we were tied for second with fish (12). It was an extremely exciting tournament for all involved, and anybody's game up until the last second. Congratulations to the Grand Slam and everyone else who finished just minutes ahead of us. Looking forward to next years event!

Stuart, Fl. Cobia Fishing Charters:
Fun to hunt and sight cast to, great fighters, excellent table fare and pretty obliging when presented with bait, cobia rank as one of the favorite fish to many local anglers. With a thick, dense, white meet and a diet consisting primarily of crabs and shrimp, cobia is prime table fare and perfect for grilling, chowder and even sashimi.

Sight casting jigs to cruising fish, which average 25 to 65 pounds with a state record of 130 lbs. while they free swim on the surface just off the beach, or behind and huge manta rays is one of the most exciting methods of catching these highly prized fish.
Cobias migrate up and down the Florida Coast year round with the peek months being from Jan to July. Manta Rays, big sharks and leather back sea turtles are often followed by cobia because when they go down to the bottom they kick up crabs and shrimp, the cobias primary food source, this is also a reason why cobia are so good to eat. Cobia can also be targeted while anchored up, or drifting too. Shallow water reefs and wrecks are great places to soak live bait; a crab or blind cast a jig.

Cobias are known for their great food value, wonderful fights, going berserk when they are gaffed and will sometimes even jump. Other fish we typically catch while targeting cobia on our Florida fishing charters are, permit, amberjack, grouper, snapper, barracuda, kingfish, and an occasional sailfish
